The Best Family Winter Activities in Dallas
Every family has their own holiday traditions, and the same goes for cities, too. As schools are let out for winter break, you may find yourself looking for activities to spend the extra time with your family. We’ve compiled a list of some ideas for families to get out and explore their community during the holidays.
A Visit to the Christmas Tree Farm
The closer you live to the city, the farther you may have to drive to get to a fir tree farm. The drive is worth it though, if you turn picking out a Christmas tree into a family event. You can make it an evening of fun by playing holiday tunes in the car on the way to the farm and by wearing your favorite Christmas sweaters. Being able to pick out the perfect tree together as a family can give the tree extra special meaning when it is placed in your home and adorned with ornaments. You can look through a list of Christmas tree farms in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area here.
Ice Skating
You can take this opportunity to teach your child something new if they have never been ice skating, an activity that has been associated with holiday cheer for a long time. You can also enjoy an ice show if ice skating is not your thing. No kid can say no to a Disney On Ice show. You can check out Dallas tickets and pricing here.
Lights Festivals
Experience the wonder of a multitude of sparkling lights under the night sky by visiting a Christmas lights festival. Many find these types of events relaxing and a fun way to walk around and explore. Many zoos typically have Christmas lights display events as well as other larger venues. The Dallas Zoo has an annual zoo lights display, which you can find out more about here.
If you live in an area without any lights festivals going on, another way to get your Christmas light fix is to make a trip of driving around neighborhoods to look at the lights people have adorned their homes with. Don’t forget to bring a cup of hot chocolate with you on the road.
Go To the Theater
There’s something theatrical about the holidays in all its festivities. Many theater companies put on holiday-themed plays and musicals around this time of year. Taking your family to a play can be a welcome change from going to the movies and watching a screen. Musicals and plays are more vibrant and sometimes even interactive. For the month of December, the Dallas Theater is featuring holiday favorites such as A Christmas Story: The Musical, Elf: The Musical, and The Nutcracker.
