Level Up Your Game Room
It may not seem like it, but game rooms are important. It’s vital to designate a space in our lives to relax, play games, and connect with others. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of our daily lives, and by creating a place for fun, we’re able to let go of those anxieties, unwind, and enjoy the moment. Your game room is also the perfect place to express the fun side of your personality. Game rooms are the exception to your home’s theme and offer the opportunity to embrace your wild side. So, let’s press "Start" and jump into the unique ways you can level up your game room!
Find the Focus
Every game room needs a primary focus—a type of game or activity you want your space to be dedicated to. Whether it’s video games, board games, poker, pool, or darts, a game room needs a theme to guide its layout and decor. Of course, multiple activities can be chosen, but game rooms are often set up to accommodate one main game. It’s also important to design a space that’s welcoming to other people. Game rooms are about relaxing but also for connecting with friends and loved ones. Having one isolated recliner in front of a TV is not inviting to others. Instead, opt for a sectional or couch, so there’s additional sitting room for more people to join you.
Make Room for Activities
Not every room can accomplish this, but saving space for spur-of-the-moment activities is a way to get the most out of your game room. For example, keeping a space clear is perfect for pulling out a card table, doing a few yoga stretches, or story time with the kids. Extra space opens up the possibilities for so many activities and can keep your game room from feeling overcrowded. Also, some activities require an open floor like dance video games or darts. So, when you plan out your game room, consider keeping an area clear for whatever comes up!
Make It Comfortable
Exciting video games are great but they would hardly be enjoyable without a comfy place to lounge. Beyond gaming, a game room is first and foremost a place to escape. A place to take a load off and prop up your feet. If you’re going to deck out your game room, do it right with plush couches and recliners. Consider even putting in a mini fridge and/or a microwave so friends and family can grab a drink or warm up food with ease. There are many ways to make your game room more comfortable: side tables, footrests, throw pillows—the list goes on. Experiment to see what fits best in your game room!
Have Fun with the Decor
This seems like a no-brainer, but your game room should be fun. It’s one of the few places in your home that doesn’t have to carry the theme of the rest of the house. Have a fun and colorful art piece that doesn’t fit in any other room? This is the place to put it. Not sure what to do with the lava lamp your uncle gave you? The game room is where it belongs. Decorating a game room is all about expressing yourself in ways you couldn’t anywhere else. It’s about exploring your style to the next level and not taking things so seriously. Of course, a classy pub-style game room with a lavish bar is always a safe choice, too. That’s what’s fun about game rooms—you can take them in any direction you please!
